Cesarean is actually the most frequent surgical procedure among women in the world. The procedure through which this practice has become more frequent has been a analyzed in several countries in the world. The decision on the way of birth is an interrelation in biological maternal factors, obstetric practice, social factors and finally the institutional factors. This work is a review of the current literature on the process of decision making with respect to the way of birth. Knowing the process would be the way to make strategies to decrease the rate of caesarean sections in a population and thus reduce the morbidity and maternal mortality.
