Abstract

CASTANEDA-LOPEZ, Gabriela. The national neurological institute and forty years of publishing magazine. Arch. Neurocien. (Mex., D.F.) [online]. 2005, vol.10, n.1, pp.43-53. ISSN 1028-5938.

The official publications besides fulfilling the target to spread the knowledge, they also allow to follow the development of the institution that produce them. This work shows preliminary results of a more extensive research about the development of the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery and has been based on a revision of its official publication: Magazine of the National Institute of Neurology (1966-1980); Archives of the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery (1986-1996) and Archives of Neurosciences (1996- ). The detailed analysis of the volumes allowed to establish that along the forty years of life of the Institute the education, the research and the care had been consolidated trough three well defined phases, which coincided with the three different epochs from the official publication. This phases show the peak of the clinical research, which was reached during the first two decades from the Institute life. From 1983 on impulse occurs to the basic research, allowing the study of the diseases through other approaches. From 1996 until nowadays, new diseases are the target for the researchers. During this time it is also noticed how the medical care was changing according to the necessities of a modern population that required care for old and new diseases.
