Abstract

ABURTO MURRIETA, Yolanda; ARAUZ GONGORA, Antonio  and  MURILLO BONILLA, Luis Manuel. Risk factors of cerebrovascular event associated to peristent foramen ovale in young people. Arch. Neurocien. (Mex., D.F.) [online]. 2004, vol.9, n.4, pp.206-214. ISSN 1028-5938.

Among the factors to explain a cerebro vascular accident (CVA) in young people is the persistence of the foramen ovale. At the National Neurological and Neurosurgical Institut 2,870 patients of the this condition were studied. The foramen oval was detected en 30 to 50% of patientes depending of the studies. The size might vary from 3 to 5 mm. About 10% of the population has this condition however not always is detected. When is imptomatic usually is acompanied with peripheral venous thombosis however not all the causes cam be explained. In this article we made a summary of this studies. The tratment is discussed.
