Abstract

JIMENEZ FERNANDEZ, Concepción María. Examination of the status of school-based libraries in Andalusía and Extremadura and proposals for improvement. Investig. bibl [online]. 2013, vol.27, n.60, pp.27-50. ISSN 2448-8321.

Since new technologies have become a part of our daily lives, access to information has undergone considerable change. In the field of education, this transformation is increasingly evident and needed for an educational community to adapt to the needs of the twenty-first century. From this standpoint, educational institutions, and specifically school-based libraries, must offer services and functions over the internet via websites. This article describes a study of the ways these services and resources are accessed through websites of school-based libraries in the Spanish provinces of Andalusía and Extremadura. The specific features of these webpages are analyzed; thereafter the author offer an array of suggestions for improving designs in order to make these pages more responsive to the needs of users and current trends of the information society.

Keywords : School Libraries; School Library Web; Access to Information via Web; Andalusia; Extremadura.
