The present work takes as its object the study and clas-sification of the useful documentary series for the investigation in history of universities. For that purpose, we part from the analysis of the university institution, later, we examine the evolution of the university archivistics. In the third place, we propose a documentary classification for the historical documentation of the universities, based on the institutional methodology. Finally, we make an analysis of the documentary series of the Salamancan Study applicable in the majority of Hispanic universities. Four conclusions, related to each of the exposed parts, put an end to our investigation.
