Abstract

NARANJO-VELEZ, Edilma. Formation of information users and formative processes: towards a conceptualization. Investig. bibl [online]. 2005, vol.19, n.38, pp.33-60. ISSN 2448-8321.

Many ideas and proposals about users of information have been converted into theories, definitions, concepts, and terms, all of which enhance the library science discipline. User information needs, user characteristics, user profiles, categories and typologies, user studies, user formation, all come into consideration. We take up user formation evolution and observe the term formation and its relationship with the concept of user from several disciplines, based on an exhaustive bibliography. We find that methodologically-speaking many approaches exist on how to plan and develop such proposals, but little support is available on the conceptual aspects. Obviously, this is not a finished task but only a beginning which hopefully will be carried on further.

Keywords : User formation; Information users.
