AMILCAR CACERES, Orlando; YORGET CASTILLO, Sumling and ANTJE HOFMANN, Tina. Aquatic Hyphomycetes associated with submerged litter in Majagua River, Chiriqui, Panama. Rev. Mex. Mic [online]. 2015, vol.42, pp.65-69. ISSN 0187-3180.
Aquatic hyphomycetes are fungi that contribute to the decomposition of submerged plant material and help to maintain the energetic balance of water bodies. The aim of the present contribution is to recognize the aquatic Hyphomycetes, which contribute to the decomposition of submerged leaves in the river Majagua, Los Algarrobos, Chiriqui, Panama. Based on morphological characteristics, aquatic hyphomycetes were identified in 21 samples of submerged leaves from three river sections. Fifteen species were found with five of them being reported for Panama for the first time: Clavariopsis azlanii, Dactylella submersa, Flabellospora crassa, Margaritispora aquatica and Scorpiosporium sp. Additionally 10 morphospecies were observed that could not be identified.
