Abstract

ESPINOZA, César et al. Antibacterial activity against plant pathogens by cruded extracts and compounds from Idriella sp.. Rev. Mex. Mic [online]. 2008, vol.26, pp.9-15. ISSN 0187-3180.

A new isolate Idriella sp. GH5608 was collected in a region of Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico. In order to explore the existence of intracellular or extracellular antibacterial activity from this strain, culture filtrates and biomass methanolic extracts were screened by microdilution method against pathogenic species to either humans or plants. Biossays-guided fractionation of the extracellular extracts from Idriella sp. GH5608 led to the identification of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furaldehyde and 1-n-Butyl-β-D-fructopyranoside. These structures were determined by spectroscopic methods. Both compounds showed inhibitory antibacterial activities against Xanthomonas axonopodis, Pectobacterium carotovorum, P. crhysanthemi and Erwinia amylovora (MIC = 0. 625 mg/ml).

Keywords : 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furaldehyde; 1-n-Butyl-β-D-fructopyranoside.
