ACUNA-GAMBOA, Luis-Alan; MERIDA-MARTINEZ, Yliana y GUTIERREZ-BENITEZ, Jorge-Gustavo. National System of Researchers and the Pandemic: Professional Exhaustion or Job Motivation?. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2023, vol.38, n.108, pp.9-40. Epub 12-Abr-2024. ISSN 2007-8358.
The National System of Researchers has become an indispensable parameter in the evaluation of public and private institutions of higher education and research centers in Mexico. This article, therefore, aims to determine the existing relationships between the National System of Researchers and the development of professional burn-out or job motivation among professors in in the country’s institutions of higher learning during the Covid-19 lockdown. Using a descriptive and correlational design as well as an online survey, the authors gather and analyze the experiences of 334 academics, members of this system, who voluntarily agreed to participate in the research. The findings indicate that during the pandemic, workdays grew longer, and professional exhaustion and job demotivation increased. This leads them to conclude that despite the issue being studied over the last ten years, lines of research are emerging that would look into the search for improving work scenarios in Mexico’s scientific and technological community.
