This text aims to study the implications of the political, economic, and ideological transformations of the last four decades for the way we study social inequality and mortality in Mexico. It examines how such changes are manifest in their theoretical and methodological mutations. Based on the theoretical and methodological contributions of the critical analysis of discourse, it helps to shed light on the existence of social hierarchies among the actors involved in the object of study and replace relational approaches with other, gradational approaches in recent decades.
