VIEYRA BAHENA, Pedro José y ROJAS CONTRERAS, Janeth. The Quest for and Consolidation of Personal Financial Development: Microcredits and Individualism in Mexico. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2020, vol.35, n.101, pp.181-214. Epub 13-Sep-2021. ISSN 2007-8358.
This article uses a socio-anthropological approach to analyze how certain micro-financial institutions and their microcredit services are integrated into Mexican individualism. It shows how the individual has constituted an image of the world in which credit access and management are the way to make individual and family projects possible. The authors illustrate how a historically constructed community and familial networks function to organize credit groups based on solidarity, promoted by micro-financial institutions, whose objective is to consolidate individual goals. As an example, they describe part of an ethnographic study focusing on rural areas in the state of Tlaxcala.
