Resumen

ALGANARAZ SORIA, Víctor Hugo. The Circuit of Private Universities in Argentina (1955-1983): Between Academic Autonomy and the Heteronomy of the Field of Power. Toward a Typology of Their Institutions. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2019, vol.34, n.96, pp.275-318. ISSN 2007-8358.

Linking the Latin American historic-structural approach with Pierre Bourdieu’s reflexive sociology, this article analyzes the configuration of Argentina’s “private university circuit” between 1955 and 1983. Using a factorial multiple correspondence analysis (FMCA), the author has analytically condensed its structure and constituted a typology of its institutions, identifying two main principles for establishing a hierarchy. One is “endogenous” and looks at its relative autonomy and academic illusio; the other, “exogenous,” linked to levels of heteronomy vis-à-vis the global field of power, makes it possible to understand the influence of the governments in power and the Catholic Church in this context.

Palabras llave : private universities; Argentina; academic autonomy; field of power; factorial analysis.
