Abstract

FUNK BUTE MEYER, Regina Karina. Selection or Chance? A Qualitative Approach to the Selection Process of Professionals in Solidarity-Based Organizations. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2018, vol.33, n.95, pp.189-228. ISSN 2007-8358.

This article looks into the hiring processes by solidarity-based organizations, describing the procedures used for recruiting, selecting, and socializing their paid staff. The research design is qualitative, based on grounded theory, and produces data through semi-structured interviews and document review. The results reveal the emphasis on tests based on projections, the use of the interview as a crosscutting technique, less formal induction processes, and limitations in attracting qualified applicants. The need therefore arises for rigorous selection processes given their impact on the quality of these organizations’ interventions in very vulnerable, excluded sectors.

Keywords : not-for-profit organizations; personnel selection; paid staff; undertakings in solidarity.
