Abstract

GADEA, Carlos A.. Symbolic Interactionism and Its Links to Studies on Culture and Power Today. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2018, vol.33, n.95, pp.39-64. ISSN 2007-8358.

A conceptual relationship exists between symbolic interactionism and contemporary studies about culture and power, post-structuralism, and what has been called post-modern criticism. The aim is to highlight the degree to which we are witnessing a theoretical, analytical gesture that introduces the issue of politics and power clearly linked to cultural aspects and a symbolic order characteristic of social interactions. Thus, the article’s objective is to suggest that heterogeneous cultural studies, as well as post-modern criticism itself, are a kind of reutilization of interactionist perspectives in sociology.

Keywords : symbolic interactionism; culture; power; post-modern criticism.
