Abstract

SANDOVAL ARAGON, Sergio Lorenzo. For an Anatomy of The distinction. Interview with Monique de Saint-Martin. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2017, vol.32, n.92, pp.243-270. ISSN 2007-8358.

This article is an interview with French sociologist Monique de Saint-Martin about her contribution to the celebrated book The distinction and different related epistemological, methodological, and ethical issues stemming from her work with Pierre Bourdieu. More concretely, the interview makes explicit not only why The distinction is still a valid scientific point of reference, but also how it resulted from the prior collaboration, institutional framework, and intellectual milieu of the time and not only Pierre Bourdieu’s sociological imagination. It even reveals some methodological and theoretical problems in the book, which inspire new research. The author interviewed De Saint-Martin in Paris on July 25, 2014.

Keywords : The distinction; Pierre Bourdieu; Monique de Saint-Martin; scientific collaboration.
