The UNAM Institute of Biotechnology offers an institutional culture that allows for the presence of prestigious researchers and the creation and consolidation of referential groups of scientists in the field of biotechnology. This is why the article attempts to disseminate some of the traits of this scientific community and its work; despite the country's socioeconomic and political limitations and conditions, it has managed to distinguish itself in the international scientific community and its work should somehow be disseminated.
