Abstract

OSORIO BALLESTEROS, Abraham. Broadening Children's Participation in Mexico: A Sociological Approximation to the Reasons, Obstacles, and Conditions for It. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2016, vol.31, n.87, pp.111-142. ISSN 2007-8358.

This article defends the idea of broadening children's participation beyond the traditional mechanisms used until now in Mexico. It looks at a series of ideas and arguments used by authors and institutions to underline certain advantages that can come out of it. It also mentions certain obstacles and conditions for thinking about greater agency for children. It concludes, among other things, that children's participation deserves to be broadened both to recognize the different implications for them in public and social affairs, and also to make their rights as people a reality.

Keywords : children's participation; legal-political and social reasons; obstacles; conditions.
