Abstract

RODRIGUEZ MEDINA, Leandro. Building Periphery: A Microanalysis of Subordinating Objects as Epistemic Technologies. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2014, vol.29, n.83, pp.9-46. ISSN 2007-8358.

This article explores how texts that go from from the centers to the peripheries, in accordance with an international division of academic labor, contribute to structuring the less institutionalized fields of study. The article describes and analyzes four capacities: 1) organizing syllabuses and canonizing ideas; 2) creating themes for lectures; 3) determining research agendas; and 4) regulating academic mobility. Although this article is theoretical, it is based on previous empirical research by the author as well as a critical reading of recent research in different disciplines in Latin America.

Keywords : circulation of knowledge; subordinating objects; centers and peripheries; sociology of knowledge; epistemic geopolitics.
