Abstract

ALFIE COHEN, Miriam. Deliberative Democracy and Environmental Governance, Crosscutting Concepts of a New Ecological Democracy?. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2013, vol.28, n.80, pp.73-122. ISSN 2007-8358.

The author explains the complex relationship between deliberative democracy and environmental governance, developing a "state-of-the-art" understanding of contemporary discussions in the field and emphasizing the normative aspect of the relationship. Environment effectiveness and political legitimacy are key axes permeating the theoretical discussion. She presents her critiques of the model and recovers the possibility of their being put into practice as a new instrument to deal with the multiplicity of spatial-environmental conflicts.

Keywords : deliberative democracy; environmental governance; political legitimacy; environmental effectiveness.
