The issue of the return of international migrants has come to the fore with the outbreak of the 2007 world crisis, spurred by the contraction in the labor market and the deepening of the U.S. policy to contain undocumented immigration into the country. Along those same lines, findings from previous studies about return migration need to be reformulated in light of the increase in forced returns (deportations) or un-planned, precarious returns, which affect the possibility of people establishing themselves for a prolonged period in Mexico. This article explores the reasons for and the forms of return migration in a part of Veracruz with emerging migration.
