Abstract

LLANES DIAZ, Nathaly. Theoretical Approaches to Teen Maternity as a Subjective Experience. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2012, vol.27, n.77, pp.235-266. ISSN 2007-8358.

Teen maternity is a topic that has been broadly dealt with in recent decades. However, its construction as an object of study has not been neutral, but has been done under the hegemonic discourses about the regulation of fertility, and using universal conceptualizations of adolescence, maternity, and family as starting points. That is why this article aims to offer theoretical elements to make it possible to understand adolescent maternity on a different analytical level, understanding it as a subjective experience. This implies conceiving young women as social actors with the ability to reflect, therefore problematizing, the definitions of adolescence and maternity.

Keywords : adolescence; maternity; pregnancy; subjectivity; reflexiveness; identity.
