In Mexico, changes are being spun in the experience and perception of sexuality. The big landmarks Cairo and Beijing conferences brought with them, legitimized the construction of sexuality as a right, at the same time that they promoted thinking about it with scientific arguments, from a gender perspective and in the framework of human rights. This article details the vicissitudes of making sexuality a right; the moral role and sexual abstinence the church and the new right call for; discrimination and homophobia as expressions of social violence against sexual diversity; and the conflicts people experience when publicly assuming non-heterosexual sexual orientations.
