Resumen
TAMAYO, Sergio. Espacios de ciudadanía, espacios de conflicto. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2006, vol.21, n.61, pp.11-40. ISSN 2007-8358.
The question the author asks in this article is: How do practices of citizenship transform and historically influence cultural ideas and forms of social organization? What is more: How do they do this through the action of strategic actors like the state, businessmen and social movements, in a semi-peripheral country like Mexico, which is entering swiftly and violently into a new model of development? The answer situates the organized citizenry as the new collective subjects who transform and influence society through the constitution of civic spaces. These are defined as a field of conflict that testifies, sometimes dramatically, to the resistance to domination, inequality and injustice. It is the real and metaphorical political space where social struggle is situated today.
Palabras llave : citizenship; public space; appropriation of space; civic practices; social conflict.
