NOVAK, Beatriz y LOZANO KEYMOLEN, Daniel. Mortality in Mexican adults between 50 to 80 years old with multimorbidity in an 18-year observation period. Estud. demogr. urbanos [online]. 2023, vol.38, n.1, pp.9-54. Epub 12-Mayo-2023. ISSN 2448-6515. https://doi.org/10.24201/edu.v38i1.2108.
The increase in chronic diseases in the Mexican population is one of the main problems in the health area. The objective of this research is to contribute to the study of the prevalence of multimorbidity and its effect on mortality from all causes in men and women between 50 and 80 years of age. With data from the Mexican Health and Aging Study, 2001-2018, the proportional hazards models, adjusted for socioeconomic and health variables, show that multimorbidity doubles the mortality risk for women and men, compared to that of their peers without multimorbidity.
