The cryoprotective effect of linoleic and oleic acids on bovine oocytes, comparatively with glycerol, was studied using stereoscopic and electronic microscopy. The low temperature (-196°C) damaged all the oocytes treated with oleic acid, 25% of those treated with linoleic acid and 15% when they were protected with glycerol. The damage was not detected adequately by stereoscopic microscopy, however it was clearly defined using electronic microscopy.
