SOLANO, J  e  ORIHUELA, A. Bibliometric analysis of papers on hair sheep published by mexican researchers in national and foreign scientific journals. Universidad y ciencia [online]. 2010, vol.26, n.1, pp. 93-105. ISSN 0186-2979.

The study included information for 1963 to 2007 and was organised into two phases: 1) A bibliometric analysis of papers on hair sheep published in three Mexican scientific journals and 2) an analysis of papers on hair sheep with at least one Mexican coauthor published in animal science journals recognised by the JCR (Journal Citation Report). Seventy six contributions were found, averaging 1.1 and 0.7 papers year-1 in the Mexican journals Técnica Pecuaria en México (Tec Pecu Mex) and Veterinaria México (Vet Mex), respectively. The publications corresponded to 69 articles, six short communications and one special publication, including 41 studies on rams, 38 on ewes and 24 on lambs, mainly on reproduction and nutrition of the Pelibuey breed. The papers had multiple authors, averaging 4.8 ± 2.2 authors publication-1 and 1.4 ± 1.1 papers author-1. The Mexican researches contributed with 45 publications in 15 foreign journals, 47% in "Small Ruminant Res", with 16 papers prepared exclusively by Mexicans and five in association with foreigners. Of the researchers, 90.8% (148) published in only one journal and 0.6% (1) in seven different journals. The average was 0.3 paper per researcher. It is concluded that researchers that study hair sheep publish one multiple author paper in Mexican scientific journals, particularly Tec Pecu Mex. Publications of Mexican researchers in foreign scientific journals are relatively recent, with a productivity of less than one paper per author, and with no continuity in the international scientific arena, which limits the study of this animal species.
