GOMEZ, Gerardo; MENA, Ana y BELTRAN LOPEZ, Robert. Study of the determinant factors of the growth of municipal savings and credit cooperatives in Peru. Contad. Adm [online]. 2019, vol.64, n.3, e112. Epub 18-Ago-2020. ISSN 0186-1042. https://doi.org/10.22201/fca.24488410e.2018.1596.
The objective of this work is to determine the factors that influence the growth of municipal savings banks in Peru. The literature regarding the factors that influence the growth of financial companies is scarce, so this study constitutes a first approximation to understand the factors that influence the growth of financial companies. The data were obtained from the Superintendency of Banking and Insurance and Pension Fund Administrator (SBS for its acronym in Spanish), which is the supervisory body of the microfinance system in Peru and covers the 2005-2014 period. The panel data model with fixed and ran-dom effects was used to compare the hypotheses. Two measures of business growth were used: financial income, and the number of workers. The independent variables used were: Placements, deposits, interest rate, delinquency, economic growth, and age. Deposits were found to positively influence the growth of municipal savings banks while delinquency negatively influence the growth of municipal savings banks in Peru.
