MOGUEL PASQUEL, María Carolina. A Porfirian Agricultural Entrepreneur in Morelos. The Case of Luis García Pimentel. Secuencia [online]. 2017, n.97, pp.170-199. ISSN 2395-8464. https://doi.org/10.18234/secuencia.v0i97.1451.
The purpose of this article is to describe the life and career of agricultural businessman Luis García Pimentel, an acknowledged representative of the Porfirian regional elite of Morelos and the owner of two sugar haciendas located east of the state, Santa Ana Tenango and Santa Clara Montefalco. This person is studied from the perspective of economic history, through meticulous research in seven archives, and up-to-date literature on the subject. Two facts are worth noting: there are no similar studies of Porfirian entrepreneurs from Morelos and the importance of the documents in Mexico City’s Notarial Archives that provide crucial, hitherto unknown information in secondary sources. The monograph shows how before the revolution, García Pimentel was a prosperous businessmen, who was familiar with his surroundings, which he leveraged to increase his profits. After the armed struggle however, he was unable to recover his previous economic success.
