The paper examines the presence of liberalism in the political project of the Novo-Hispanic insurgency. The issue is part of a complex problem: studying the shift of ideas to political action. it is based on the premise that the struggle begun on September 16 1810 was designed to achieve independence and thereafter a political project was developed to achieve the break with Spain, which transitioned from a constitutional monarchy to a republic. This approach is used to discuss the revisionist historiography that denies the importance of the insurgent struggle. The article is based on the main documents written by the insurgent leaders and governments.
