ROSAS SALAS, Sergio Francisco. The Provision of the Puebla Cathedral Chapter, 1831-1835. Secuencia [online]. 2012, n.84, pp.15-39. ISSN 2395-8464.
The article analyzes the renovation of the Puebla Cathedral Chapter between 1831 and 1835. It shows how in 1831, this organization proceeded, according to Bishop Francisco Pablo Vázquez, to nominate the 27 members of the Chapter, which he completed in June of 1835. Although the liberal reform failed to recognize this provision in 1833, the following year, the promotions were ratified due to the consensus between local and national authorities on the social value of Catholicism. The elites favored agreement over conflict. By doing so, they guaranteed the existence and permanence of a strong Cathedral Chapter in independent Mexico, committed to the Republican nation project and freedom of the Church in relation to the state. Likewise, this chapter position fostered the use of canon law in the diocesan government.
