Resumen

CARBAJAL LOPEZ, David. A Corporation during the Spanish Revolutions. The Carmelite Convent of San Juan de la Cruz de Orizaba, 1794-1834. Secuencia [online]. 2007, n.69, pp.11-35. ISSN 2395-8464.  https://doi.org/10.18234/secuencia.v0i69.1016.

Recent historiography has portrayed the period of transition between the Ancien Régime and early liberalism as a period of constant decadence for religious corporations, affected by the Bourbon Reforms, the war of 1810 and the intervention of independent governments. This convent, however, founded precisely during the Bourbon monarchs era, flourished under the reformist policies, maintained its loyalty to the regime in times of war, accepted the independence of the new nation and not only avoided the threats of this period but was actually able to improve its economic situation and spiritual responsibilities under the early federalism.
