Resumen
SERNA, Ana María. Journalism, State and Public Opinión in the Early 1920s (1919-1924). Secuencia [online]. 2007, n.68, pp.55-85. ISSN 2395-8464. https://doi.org/10.18234/secuencia.v0i68.1005.
The article analyzes the journalistic practices and the state of the public sphere in the 1920s. On the basis of historical research based on primary sources, the author argues that in the 1920s, once the armed phase of the revolution had ended, the public sphere was far broader and more open than during the stage of consolidation of the single party system and the Mexican political system in the 20th century. At that time, the weakness of the State and the attitude of President Obregón enabled public opinión, however restricted, to play a significant role. It also shows that the everyday practice of journalism contradicts certain concepts by which this trade is usually defined: impartiality, veracity, honor, respect and work on behalf of the collective interest.
