The article analyzes the development of Banco Oriental de México from the perspective of labor policy. Using a "from below" approach, the study shows how the social mechanisms of the Hispanic community in the southeast of Mexico enabled this mercantile institution to become one of the main issuing banks in the country. The article focuses on the bank's employees, on the basis of a systematic review of the minute book of Banco Oriental's Board of Directors.
