It is presumed that in a few generations most of the languages of the world will become only a memory, and that the replacement of these native languages and cultures will definitely upset the sociocultural balance, values and peaceful coexistence of these groups. Indigenous communities have developed different responses to resist such replacement; being a prominent example the Mayan people of the Yucatán Peninsula, fertile land known for its cultural and linguistic resistance. This article summarily describes how the Proyecto de Revitalización, Mantenimiento y Desarrollo Lingüístico y Cultural (PRMDLC) has promoted the development of audiovisual and printed media produced in Yucatec Mayan tongue, manufactured and disseminated along with key region's native actors.
