PRIANI SAISO, Ernesto. Mark-up and Good Practices. A Critique of the Delimitation of Digital Humanities in Latin America. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2019, vol.40, n.158, pp.129-144. Epub 31-Oct-2019. ISSN 2448-7554. https://doi.org/10.24901/rehs.v40i158.343.
This paper sets out to analyze the strategies adopted to understand the development of the community of Digital Humanists (DH) in Latin America, and so reflect on the role assigned to good practices and the use of standards to describe this field. Special interest is placed on the use of TEI guides. The main thesis is that good practices and standards have been used with a normative character to integrate a community of practitioners of Digital Humanities, obviating the discussion on the epistemological articulation among methods, tools and objects of knowledge. I argue that this strategy of prioritizing good practices and standards of a normative character entails problems in eliminating local variants of research, and technological and academic dependence, which are undesirable for DH in the region.
