Abstract

VENTURA PATINO, María del Carmen. Agrarian spaces in conflict in the Meseta Purépecha. Capacuaro-Pomacuarán and Ocumicho-Tangancícuaro. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2018, vol.39, n.156, pp.257-288. ISSN 2448-7554.  https://doi.org/10.24901/rehs.v39i156.396.

This article presents, first, a general overview of agrarian conflicts in Michoacán, before focusing on two specific cases, one involving two neighboring indigenous communities, the other an indigenous community and an ejido. Official information indicates that the first conflict has been resolved, but the second remains on the list of “pending matters”. We sketch elements that move us towards a better understanding of the complexity of this problematic and some possible solutions. The essay also analyzes government policies on social assistance, privileging the evaluations emitted by collective subjects based on their concrete experience.

Keywords : indigenous communities; agrarian conflicts; social assistance policies.
