Resumen

PLAZOLA MEZA, Eduardo. Thrusts and Ruptures of Modernity in Mining Discourses. The Case of El Magistral, 1900-1930. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2017, vol.38, n.152, pp.109-145. ISSN 2448-7554.  https://doi.org/10.24901/rehs.v38i152.356.

Little is known about early 20th-century mining camps in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, despite the considerable value they contributed to the state’s economy and the high number of mines and miners that operated in the various mining districts. In the 1900-1930 period, the content of discourses on the economy and mining society in El Magistral, Ameca, published in national and international newspapers, academic texts and official documents manifest some of the paradoxes of modernity in relation to progress, liberalism and the capitalist system. The information presented can potentially be used to problematize local mining stories and question processes of modernization.

Palabras llave : mining; postmodernity; discourse; context; Ameca.
