Historically-speaking, the community of San Nicolás de Esquiros emerged from an agricultural ex-hacienda, experienced the agrarian movement, and is now living a process of globalization, all of which have scarred it significantly. The ex-hacienda building is catalogued among Mexico's architectural patrimony, but the structure is badly deteriorated due to a series of appropriations that have affected it. Thus, it is important to find elements that will permit its conservation from, and with, the community, in the context of Mexico's new rurality.
