AGUILAR OCHOA, Arturo. The Julio Michaud company: its editorial production in Mexico and support for the works of French artists (1837-1900). Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2015, vol.36, n.141, pp.161-187. ISSN 2448-7554.
Julio Michaud was a businessman of French origin who carried out important editorial work in Mexico City in the years from 1837-to-1900; work that his son carried on in the ensuing years. Several publications, including cultural magazines and lithographic and photographic albums, produced especially by French artists, were sponsored by this publishing house. Among its outstanding publications we find photographs that were intensely studied by historiographers such as Charnay and Briquet, and that disseminated what Europeans of the period considered the "image of things Mexican" (including landscapes, cities, archaeology, and national types). The article reviews the activities of this publishing entrepreneur based on fresh sources, including family archives.
