Resumen

GOMEZ CARPINTEIRO, Francisco Javier. Anthropology, Science and Other Knowledge: Reflections on the Subject and Its Conceptualizations. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2014, vol.35, n.137, pp.15-53. ISSN 2448-7554.

This article posits that social anthropology must overcome the empiricism of the observed object because this epistemology contributes to the classification, and subsequent control, of subjects. Counter to this view, I argue that there exists another knowledge; one of a challenging character. I develop this idea by replying to the following questions: 1) What impedes us from making our ethical and political commitments explicit?; 2) How can we overcome notions founded upon the principles of scientificity so as to incorporate the experiences of struggle of the subordinated sectors that anthropologists usually study?; and, 3) How can we create concepts based on such experiences that will generate understandings of the subject that surpass those sustained by mainstream academic and intellectual production.

Palabras llave : subject as struggle; fieldwork; another epistemology; classificatory identity; the other zapatista campaign; the State.
