In this study I present an analytical approach to popular Chilean lexicon on social behavior from a semantic-conceptual perspective, a vision that allows me to characterize lexical materials in terms of conceptual categories and their relations. The expressions examined form part of the normal vocabulary used in Chile in reference to social behavior. On this occasion, attention centers on the formation of these units that, according to the analysis, arise from spatial concepts and schemes of movement. The main conclusion is that the application of these expressions is determined by cognitive models that capture idealizations of social behavior. This latter aspect may explain their recurrence in everyday communication, for such functions as characterizing typical behaviors and designating singular persons.
