ROA CORDERO, Martha Viviana e ROSAS QUIJANO, Raymundo. Polyamine Biosynthesis in the Phytopathogenic Fungus Macrophomina phaseolina. Rev. mex. fitopatol [online]. 2013, vol.31, n.1, pp.45-59. ISSN 2007-8080.
The study of polyamine biosynthetic mechanisms in phytopathogenic fungi is relevant in order to clarify the metabolic variations of this biological process, which despite its evolutionary conservation, could help to understand the role of these compounds in the fungal pathogenic process. Macrophomina phaseolina is a fungal plant pathogen with wide host spectrum including economically important crops such as legumes and vegetables. Due to its necrotrophic potential, high persistence and global distribution, the comprehension of the regulatory role played by polyamines in fungal virulence is a key factor to understand the pathosystem plant-M. phaseolina. Since polyamine metabolism in M. phaseolina is not yet completely understood, we discuss a model to explain the polyamine biosynthetic pathways and their role in the pathogenesis, based on their recently sequenced genome.
