Abstract

The variety 'Sáwali Oro C2008' was developed at Norman E. Borlaug Experimental Station through a collaborative project between the National Institute for Forestry, Agriculture and Livestock Research and the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center. Its pedigree and selection history is MUSK_1//ACO89/FNFOOT_2/4/MUSK_4/3/PLATA_3//CREX/ALLA/5/OLUS*2/ILBOR//PATKA_7/YAZI_1,CDSS02Y00786T-0TOPB-0Y-0M-2Y-0M-0Y. This cultivar is resistant to leaf rust, and the quality characteristics for pasta-making are better than commercial control variety 'Júpare C2001', so that it becomes a better option for international export for wheat producers from northwestern Mexico. During crop seasons of evaluation 2006-2007 to 2008-2009, 'Sáwali Oro' showed a range of experimental grain yield of 4.5 to 6.9 t ha^-1, resistance to leaf rust, and the intensity of the yellow pigment in the grain endosperm showed an average of 27.8 points in the Minolta b value. This cultivar has the registration TRI-109-240209 in the national catalog of cultivars feasible for registration. Seed may be purchased through several seed companies.
