Abstract

VELASQUEZ-VALLE, Rodolfo  and  AMADOR-RAMIREZ, Mario Domingo. Analysis of the phytopathological research on dry pepper (Capsicum annuum L.), carried out by the National Institute for Forestry, Agriculture and Livestock Research in the states of Aguascalientes and Zacatecas, Mexico. Rev. mex. fitopatol [online]. 2007, vol.25, n.1, pp.80-84. ISSN 2007-8080.

Dry pepper is an important crop in the states of Aguascalientes and Zacatecas, Mexico, from the socioeconomic point of view; however, it is affected by several diseases that cause losses which have not completely quantified. The objective of this report is to determine the statu quo of the phytopathological research carried out in experimental stations of the National Institute for Forestry, Agriculture and Livestock Research (INIFAP) in that region, and to identify weak areas that require greater research efforts. INIFAP has carried out research on etiology and management of diseases such as damping-off in nurseries, root rot, root-knot nematodes, powdery mildew, bacterial spot and yellowing. However, it is of great concern the delay that INIFAP shows at the regional level, in generating dry pepper varieties with disease resistance, as well as other management practices for the main pathogens of this crop.

Keywords : Etiology; diagnostic; management; INIFAP; research.
