Abstract

CAMPUZANO ARTETA, Álvaro. Bolívar Echeverría as Walter Benjamin’s Translator. Acta poét [online]. 2020, vol.41, n.1, pp.91-113.  Epub June 15, 2020. ISSN 2448-735X.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.ap.2020.1.867.

This article analyzes Bolívar Echeverría’s work as a translator of Walter Benjamin into Spanish, understanding translation as a form of actualization and the translator as someone who brings the text to an apparently foreign context, thus exploiting its potentialities within a new sociocultural reality. Bolívar Echeverría engages in a dialogue with Bejamin from the Latin American context in order to reject the notions that reduce language to being a reference value, pinpointing its role as a historical, not essentialist, source of collective and individual identity.

Keywords : Echeverría; Benjamin; Modernity; Language; Messianism; Translation.
