Abstract

LENERO, Carmen. To Write a Historical Novel: Considerations Made on the Go. Acta poét [online]. 2019, vol.40, n.1, pp.141-167. ISSN 2448-735X.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.ap.2019.1.849.

This article presents a series of reflections about the fictionalization of historical discourse. These reflections are based on my previous studies of the historical novel as a genre, and of the novel in general. More significantly they are based on the experience of writing a historical novel and the actual procedures that I have used to create a story situated in the Colonial period of Mexico while focusing on the lives of cloistered nuns living in a convent in seventeenth-century New Spain.

Keywords : History; literature; historical novel; fiction; Colonial convents; New Spain culture; hagiography.
