This article reads over The Name of the Rose, by Umberto Eco, and its status as an intertextual novel. Of the different levels of reading, this essay deals with the erudite aspects that are related to medieval philosophy and literature, while at the same time they tend to communicate with contemporary literature. This exercise makes visible the critical substrate of the writing of Eco's work, with respect to the relationship between power, knowledge and censorship as a form of control.
