Abstract

PEDROSA, José Manuel. The Lover, the Door and the Rain: the Hispanic Ballad of The Deceived Wife, the Sumba Indian pahkaru and the Poetic Topic paraklausithyron. Acta poét [online]. 2011, vol.32, n.1, pp.151-204. ISSN 2448-735X.

Comparative analysis of some ballads and songs from the Hispanic tradition (including Portuguese and Sephardic traditions from northern Morocco as well as from the Eastern Mediterranean) based on the topic of the lover who knocks on the woman's door (paraklausithyron), usually under cold and rain. Their biblical, classical and modern European parallels (both oral and written) are studied, and pieces from France, Germany and Hungary are compared to an Indian traditional song, known as the pakharu of Sumba. Also in this work the concepts of 'topic', 'type' and 'motive' are explored.

Keywords : Ballad; folk song; love; The deceived wife; Spain; India; paraklausithyron.
