CONEJERO LOPEZ, Alberto. La muerte de Androniki: Marginalidad y libertad de la mujer en el cancionero urbano griego. Acta poét [online]. 2005, vol.26, n.1-2, pp.121-139. ISSN 2448-735X.
In this paper, I describe and analyse the role of women in Greek urban folk songs (rebetiko). Women of rebetiko were free spirits who spurned the conventions of their times and lived independent lives, even if this meant to live apart, in the fringe of society. They inherited this attitude from Greek Ottoman cosmopolitanism, born in the long-lasting coexistence of Greek Ottoman people with certain european way of life in the eastern Mediterranean. Most of the songs were written by composers of Asia Minor after the catastrophe of 1922.
