Resumen
CURCO, Carmen. Ironía, persuasión y pragmática: el caso de la caricatura política mexicana contemporánea. Acta poét [online]. 2004, vol.25, n.2, pp.333-375. ISSN 2448-735X.
The purpose of this paper is to offer a coherent cognitive pragmatic explanation of the link between irony and persuasion and its workings in political cartoons. The analysis is framed in relevance theoretic terms, given that this approach considers not only utterances, but complex communicative stimuli constituted by a mixture of text and image. It also offers a characterization of verbal irony that can be extended to the study of ironic elements in visual representations and political cartoons, so that their impact in the shaping of public opinion can be accounted for.
